Blue Boy, Zuma Beach

This painting is 30 x 40, a big challenge. Oddly, a human being is the hardest subject for a painting, since a half inch mistake wrecks the whole thing. As the master painter John Singer Sargent said; "A portrait is a picture where there's something wrong with the mouth." Well, there is plenty about this painting that could be improved, but it's a boy with his boogieboard at the Pacific Ocean, and it doesn't get much better than that. Cowabunga, dude.

Love from Wilson World,
Tom

Awesome artwork! Did you have a model? He looks like you. ;) I've always loved drawing portraits when I took art classes. I was actually very decent at those, but I've fallen gravely out of practice. Now if this was a boy on the Atlantic ocean...he'd probably have seaweed and a six pack plastic ring near his foot and be carrying a deflated float he most likely swiped from someone else's towel. Sorry, just having Coney Island memories! :P
I think your paintings are beautiful. I love your use of colors.

Great colors and FANTASTIC textures! I admire anyone who works well with color! (my weak point).
I'd really love to see more of your artwork in this blog! Can't get enough!

This artwork is sooooo Californian! Love the beach!

(Personally, I'm terrible at drawing lips on women and when I draw guys, I just draw them with 'staches to make it easier for me. ha ha.)
